The American Kennel Club Meet The Breeds The American Kennel Club 0731360845917 Books
The AKC has recently noticed that its base of dedicated breeders, trainers and exhibitors has been decreasing. There is no longer a large base willing to spend all their free time (and a great deal of money) in ways dictated by it. And, in fact ,even its revered "Dog Book" is no longer eagerly sought for its few annual updates. So, has the AKC like many other petrified institutions refused to change and begun the decline into history? No. To its everlasting (we hope) credit, it has put out a dog book that non-experts can read and find out what kind of dog they might like, how to find out more information about it and where to find a healthy specimen with lots of people in its breed club who love to help newcomers.
This book is an example of the change. There are a few ways it could be better. In this age of icons (visual, not popular) it stayed with standardized phrases to indicated that, for instance, a breed needed regular grooming or lots of exercise instead of cute little drawings of brushes or jumping dogs. The lack of an index means that it is very hard to track down that shaggy little white dog you remember seeing somewhere. And the refusal to recognize the existence of other kennel clubs does a disservice to residents of other countries and proponents of other breeds.
But it represents a very good first try. If not a Best of Breed at least an honorable mention.

The American Kennel Club Meet The Breeds The American Kennel Club 0731360845917 Books Reviews
Great pictures and information! It is a brief overview of each breed! Doesn't go into too much detail but definitely useful and fun to read!
This is my first and so far only e-book. I enjoyed learning about the different dog breeds which helped me make an informed decision. However I don't find this e-book very easy to get from one location to another. Not impressed with E-books. Still prefer hard copies...
Interestingly an informative book along with some wonderful dog breed photos.
Could be improve by having some other additional breeds such as working dog breeds from other Countries such as the Southern Russian Ovtcharka, Fila, and the Japanese Tosa.

The book reviewed all breeds especially the one breed I was interested in buying. The picturs of the breeds were great and I would definitely recommend it.
I bought used should've known better, it ended up being way used. but for a couple bucks what can you expect. I did enjoy reading about the breeds
This book offers a well-balanced, concise synopsis of all the breeds and seems basically on-target in terms of accuracy, at least for the breeds with which I am familiar (a fairly large number given a long history attending dog shows and canine performance events). If you're researching breeds as a way to determine the best match for your family, MEET THE BREEDS is an excellent place to start. It offers specific yet broad-based information on the pros and cons of each breed at an extremely reasonable price!
I used to own a Bookstore. I used to breed Standard Poodles. Those two facts make me eminently qualified to recommend this book. There is something for everyone, from the very young canine enthusiasts to the seasoned veteran of the Dog Show circuit. The information ~~from the lifespan to grooming requirements of each of the breeds ~~ is provided in a highly visual format. Facts and little-known health issues are presented in such a fashion that you don't realize all the particulars you are being fed. I loved this book!
